STEAM Curriculum Info
Field Trips at The Sawdust Factory are a great supplement and companion to your school’s existing STEAM curriculum.
We incorporate STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) concepts into every one of our interactive and educational wood shop Presentations and our time in the workshop.
In the wood shop, the students learn to connect plant biology and the physical world around them. We learn about lumber, agriculture, and the ways that industrial trees grow. We can discuss topics such as rainfall, growing regions, soil components, and geographical terms and structures that make this renewable industry possible.
The tools in our wood shop give students an in-person visual of the technology that has engineered and manufactured so much of the world around us. These types of tools create things, big and small, from crafts to the houses in which we live. We safely and from a distance demonstrate the scroll saw and show various woodcutting blades and tools.
And finally, visual arts is of course an integral component to our field trips. Students get to learn painting and crafting techniques with a hands-on multi-media creation that they take home that same day.
Please let us know if we can incorporate something more specific in your next field trip to create an even more educational experience. We look forward to creating and learning with you and your students!
